DISASTER RELIEF EFFORTS
On Saturday, October 3, 2015, rain began to fall in Columbia, SC and continued relentlessly for two consecutive days hitting the state's capital and surrounding areas hard. A record 17 inches of rain fell in 17 hours, causing creeks and dams to overflow - leaving the city devastated by catastrophic flooding. Water rose as high as 17 feet in some areas. Hundreds of businesses, homes and apartment complexes were overtaken by flood waters. Many residents were forced from their homes due to flash flooding and had to be rescued by boat, helicopter and any other available means. Help for those displaced and for all recovering from this crisis is needed now. God Cares Charities has fed over 4,000 families and distributed over $10,000 worth of clothing vouchers to families affected by the flood through our God Cares Thrift Stores. You can Help too! Families are still rebuilding and your support is needed. Visit our donate or sponsor page to figure out how!

On September 16, 2015, a major flooding brought by torrential rain hit parts of Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, an unknown number of people have been killed, many left injured and over 3,800 people have been displaced. Many of those left homeless have sought refuge in Siaka Stevens Stadium and Attouga Stadium – which is reminiscent of what took place during Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana. It is estimated that there are another 1,000 displaced people at Ferry Junction in Kissi.
